Thanks to a grant from A Better Chicago, 藏精阁 has launched the Metropolitan Chicago Tutoring Corps (MCTC) in collaboration with the Chicago Public School District and other colleges in the Chicago area. Corps members provide paid, high-dosage tutoring during the school day in Math for grades 6-8 in select CPS schools. The MCTC is a focused effort to address the learning and social-emotional needs of Chicago students and prepare them for success.
Current teacher candidates and college students, as well as recent college graduates, are strongly encouraged to apply to participate in the MCTC. In addition to being paid $21-23 an hour to tutor 20-32 hours per week, all Corps members will receive coaching and support for travel and child care expenses. Current teacher candidates may be able to apply their time as tutors toward the fulfillment of licensure requirements. The MCTC is a unique opportunity to obtain knowledge and skills applicable to a variety of career goals and to make a difference in the city of Chicago.
The following individuals are strongly encouraged to apply to participate in the Metropolitan Chicago Tutoring Corps:
- Current undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in a teacher preparation program, especially in elementary education.
- Current undergraduate students and graduate students who are not education majors but have a passion for making a difference in the lives of children..
- Recent college graduates with a Bachelor's degree in any area over the last five years.
All Corps members must have a passion for working one-on-one and in small groups with learners in grades 6-8 classrooms Chicago Public Schools. In addition, all Corps members must be able to pass an FBI, State of Illinois, and Sex Offender background check and a TB Test to deliver tutoring in the Chicago Public Schools.
- Paid Tutoring: All Corps members will be employed by CPS and paid for their tutoring during the school day. CPS will pay Corps members $20-22 an hour, as long as you鈥檙e willing to tutor for 20-32 hours per week.鈥疶hat鈥檚 $400-$700 a week!
- Coaching and Support: Corps members will receive specialized training and support during the school matching process and while they complete their tutoring work in schools.
- Financial Support: All Corps members will be eligible to receive up to $1,000 in stipend payments to help offset expenses such as childcare and transportation.
- Field Experience Waiver: Currently enrolled teacher candidates may be able to apply their tutoring toward the fulfillment of field experience requirements.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2025-2026 school year. .
Once the application is submitted, a recruitment coordinator will reach out to arrange a time for a group interview where all candidates will be able to ask questions and learn more about the program.
